    • MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA:

      Per a 2017 Forbes study, South Florida is home to 27 of the 400 richest people in America. It boasts 6 of the 20 richest “millionaire enclaves” and is home to the wealthiest city by income in the United States: Fisher Island. Rich or poor, famous or not so much, one thing is certain: The people of South Florida need Christ. In this dense population zone, 78.8 percent of the population is lost.

    • WASHINGTON D.C.:

      Currently, there are only 713 active Southern Baptist congregations working to reach 6,264,098 people living in D.C. and its surrounding suburbs. This means there is only one Southern Baptist congregation for every 8,786 people. The evangelical population in D.C. is only 12.5 percent.

      The Baltimore metro area boasts a population of more than 2.8 million people. There are only 252 active Southern Baptist congregations which means there is only one Southern Baptist church to every 9,925 people.

    • BOSTON:

      Of the estimated 5.9 million people living in the metro area of Boston, the majority identify as Catholics. The second largest group is comprised of those who claim no religious affiliation. The city is home to only 156 Southern Baptist congregations, which leaves the city with only one Southern Baptist church for every 38,179 people.

      With close to 8 million people in the city and more than 22 million in the metro area, it is the largest metro area in the world. Though 83 percent of New Yorkers are affiliated with some form of organized religion, only 4 percent identify themselves as evangelical.

    • PHILADELPHIA:

      Today there are only 204 Southern Baptist churches in the city, and they are trying to reach nearly 6,347,342 people in the Philadelphia metro area. This leaves one Southern Baptist church for every 31,114 persons, a ratio that must decrease to reach a population where only 6.2 percent identify as evangelical.

      There are only 53 Southern Baptist churches serving the Pittsburgh population of close to 2.5 million people. That means there is only one church for every 45,841 residents.

    • CINCINNATI:

      Just 13.7 percent of the 2 million residents in the metro area are affiliated with an evangelical church, and more than half of the city’s residents do not affiliate with a religion of any kind. There is only one Southern Baptist church for every 10,298 Cincinnatians in the five Ohio counties around the city.

      More than 47 percent of the people in metro Cleveland aren’t affiliated with a religious body—Christian or otherwise. Only 8.5 percent of metro Cleveland residents are evangelicals. There is only one Southern Baptist congregation for every 24,563 people in Cleveland.

      With more than 800,000 people in the city itself and close to 2 million people in the metro area, Indianapolis is the 11th largest city in the U.S. It is also one of the most unchurched. Only one out of five Indy residents go to church each weekend. More than a million people are not affiliated with any religious group.

    • DETROIT:

      Though church buildings can still be seen throughout the city, many that once housed some of the great Gospel voices in the country now sit virtually empty on Sunday mornings. Evangelicals make up only 10.4 percent of the population. With only one Southern Baptist church for every 33,806 people, it’s one of the most underserved cities in North America.

    • CHICAGO:

      Less than 10 percent of the population is affiliated with an evangelical church. There are currently 271 Southern Baptist churches in the Chicago metro area, but with 10 million people to reach, help is desperately needed.

      Only 20.1 percent of residents in the metro area claim to be evangelical, less than half the percentage in some southern states. Today the metro area has only one Southern Baptist church for every 7,587 residents.

    • ST. LOUIS:

      Though some of the oldest Southern Baptist churches in the city have been around for two centuries, there is still only one Southern Baptist church for every 7,760 people in metropolitan St. Louis. Less than 18 percent of metropolitan St. Louis residents are affiliated with an evangelical church.

      There is only one Southern Baptist church for every 56,839 people. It has, by far, the lowest Southern Baptist church-to-population ratio of any major city in the United States. Though many residents come from churched backgrounds in the Twin Cities, evangelicals still make up only 13 percent of the population.

      There is only one Southern Baptist church for every 20,135 people in the Denver metro area. The need for planting new churches is vital in the areas between the urban core and the suburbs, which has been called “The Forgotten Region.” Young adults are flocking to these places to take advantage of Denver’s resources, which gives the Church a unique opportunity to connect and build community.

      Recognized as the least religious city in America by the Public Religion Research Institute’s American Values Atlas, Portland only has a small evangelical presence. With neighborhoods across the region unreached and underserved, Southern Baptists are focusing on these places with strategic church plants and creative ministry efforts, and they hope to see more church planters and partners come alongside this vision.

      With 187 Southern Baptist congregations, the Southern Baptist church-to-population ratio in Seattle’s combined statistical area is one church for every 25,798 people. And with an ethnic mix of as many as 17 percent foreign-born and 12 percent Asian, diversity demands cultural sensitivity.

      There are 295 Southern Baptist congregations in the three-county area. That equals one Southern Baptist church for every 19,247 people. In the most recent release of Barna Group’s Barna: Cities, the researcher listed the most and least “Bible-Minded” cities in the United States.

      The area is currently home to 203 Southern Baptist congregations, so there is only one church for every 16,344 residents. With only 9.8 percent of the area’s 3.3 million people claiming to be evangelicals, the Church has an incredible opportunity to make an impact here.

      Only 5.2 percent of its 1.4 million inhabitants claim to believe in Jesus Christ. And currently there is only one Canadian National Baptist Convention (CNBC) church for every 46,365 people.
